Five Star Review

"I didn't really know where to start with a cleaner but the young lady on the phone was very kind and went slowly for me, the cleaner arrived and had a look around and seemed very keen. She has been coming for a few weeks and I am finding it very easy so far"

Thanks Marie!

What’s the difference between a Cleaner and a Housekeeper?

6/11/2018

We tend to use the words cleaner, housekeeper and maid interchangeably and while all of them can be used to convey the same meaning there is actually a difference in what these people do

Do you need a housekeeper or a house cleaner or a maid service?
Picture
A cleaner is usually someone who comes to undertake a specific cleaning job. If you are looking for a one off clean, a deep clean or an end of tenancy clean then it is probably a cleaner you are looking for. Cleaners set to work on a specific task that usually involves deep scrubbing, clearing, polishing and sanitising a property. A cleaner is more likely than and housekeeper or maid to bring their own cleaning materials. They may work in teams and the service you should expect is very through, intense, professional but probably not especially personal.
Picture
A housekeeper is a cleaning professional who usually takes on more of a role as part of a family or household than purely an external service provider. A housekeeper i usually hired by a homeowner or family to perform a variety of tasks using equipment and cleaning products that are already in the home. They will almost certainly have a regular schedule to be in the home, may hold keys for the property and will often have tasks beyond pure cleaning that they undertake: such as watering plants, laundry and ironing and sorting post.

Typical duties of a Housekeeper may include:

  • Cleaning, tidying, sorting, polishing, vacuuming
  • Washing up, drying up, putting away dishes and cutlery
  • Laundry, washing clothes and bedding, ironing, putting away
  • Changing and making beds
  • Removing rubbish bags, sorting recycling
  • Changing light bulbs loo rolls
  • Tidying and sorting everything from children's bedrooms to garages.
  • Other duties may be included such as cooking, running errands, shopping
Picture
Maid is a term that is falling out of favour since it has a long association with someone being a servant. It is most commonly used to describe someone who does a cleaning job in a hotel, B&B or other public house. Maids are usually responsible for refreshing a room, changing laundry, cleaning, tidying and restocking a guest room ready for the next visitor.

The short answer is it doesn’t really matter what you call them, the main thing is that the company supplying your professional help understands what you need.

Most of our clients at QuickCleaner are looking for a housekeeping service because they want a very personal individual service from the same person over a period of time. We also take on a lot of one-off cleaning work and that is almost always conducted by what we call a cleaner.

The QuickCleaner special recipe (it's not a secret!)

4/11/2018

Today's post is the result of an interesting conversation we had with one of our newest customers. This lovely lady seems to have tried almost every other cleaning company in Cardiff before she came to us. As a result she was feeling quite disillusioned by the cleaning industry but she was able to give us a really interesting insite into how things work, what doesn't work and what it is we do that, for people like this lady, makes us the best choice for professional home cleaning.

When my colleague was describing her conversation to me it sounded almost exactly like she was describing a three section Venn diagram of cleaning services and basically describing the frustration of having to choose a professional housekeeping service in Cardiff that only did well on two of the factors. The image was so compelling that I fired up excel and made it and rather than keeping it secret like to Colonel i'm going put it on every page of the website. I give to you the QuickCleaner (not so) Secret recipe for Home Cleaning.
Picture
Back our wonderful new customer. About a year ago she realised the many benefits a professional cleaner can bring to a home and set about finding one.

First Attempt - The Fully Independent Cleaner

The first cleaner came courtesy of a card in a newsagents window put up there by an independent cleaner that worked on her own. Our customer called the number and when the cleaner arrived it appeared she had struck gold! The cleaner was knowledgeable, had passion for her own cleaning business and the prices were very reasonable. For a few weeks things were going great. And then the school holidays started. This great cleaner didn't have childcare so she wasn't able to come and clean for three weeks, by this time the lady had got used to having a regular cleaner so suddenly not having one became a major inconvenience. Once the holidays were over the cleaner cam back and once again things were fine.....for another few weeks when the cleaner broke her wrist and was unavailable for work for at least 6 weeks. Sadly this lady was back to square one with no cleaner and had to start the hunt again

Second Attempt - The Super Professional Maid Service

Having learned from her experience our lady no went to the other end of the spectrum and searched the web for the most reliable professional outfit she could. The result was a very well known international chain with a good reputation for reliability. The costs were high but it looked like the cleaning quality would be too and with fully uniformed teams of two cleaners arriving in fully branded company vans with their own equipment it was clear that holidays and sickness would not be an issue.

unfortunately all was not quite so simple. The service for this lady left a lot to be desired

"It was fine, I mean they came and they cleaned and it's hard to say they did anything wrong but the issue was that it was so impersonal. The cleaners that came were different every time, they appeared to be cleaning to their own schedule rather than taking time to understand what was important to me. It felt like a wipe and go hotel maid service"

Having had such a good independent cleaner before this just wasn't enough for our lady so after waiting until the end of the minimum contracted three month period she had been forced to sign up to with this company (suddenly it became clear why they did this) She was looking for another cleaner again

Attempt 3 - The HUGE UBER online marketplace company

Out lady hadn't heard of this particular company before so she didn't realise quite how big they were. This particular company had raised over $50 million of venture capital and was attempting to cash in on the Uber success story by launching a service where you can order a cleaner like you order a pizza online, throwing huge money at aggressive launches in just about every city in the world. The premise was great, look on their website, pick from a  range of individually rated and reviewed cleaners, pay on the site and get your clean done. The reality for this lady at least was very different. When she looked in Cardiff there were apparently 3 suitable cleaners, two who had never worked for the company before, had no reviews and not profile pictures and a third with a couple of reviews who was more expensive. Our lady chose the more expensive option but was soon informed that this cleaner was not actually available and she needed to choose another. She selected both of the remaining "unrated" cleaners, was told that one had accepted her job. She paid up front and again was forced to sign a three month minimum period (perhaps should have learned the first time?) then waited. and waited, and waited.  No one ever arrived. Perhaps unsurprisingly you can't order a cleaner like an Uber. We have heard other stories where the cleaner that arrives was not the person selected on the site at all. It appears perhaps there are some bugs and that without the human touch a complex algorithm sometimes fails.....back to the search for our hapless customer.

Final Attempt - QuickCleaner Heaven!

When this lady came to us she was deciding between us and another company. The other company are great. We know them, they have good cleaners, a good reputation and they are a safe bet - but they are very expensive - again only two circles on our diagram. I am pleased to say we won the business. The unique way we work means that we can tick all three boxes.

Firstly our costs are among the very lowest locally. Our pricing is up front and honest. You pay us a small fee to manage your account and you pay your cleaner directly for as little as £9 per hour. What you get is an independent expert cleaner that has been personally approved by us. The quality of cleaning is high and more importantly the service is personal, no more wipe and go, instead a cleaner that is running their own micro business and is driven by that and knows that she receives every penny of the hourly rate you pay = happy motivated cleaner   = clean house = happy customer. the final part is our professional management company. We manage your cleaner, make sure they stay on track, keep them reliable. If they go on holiday or are off sick we make sure you are not left without a cleaner and if they leave or stop working we replace them - for free!

That's it - the not so secret recipe to cook the perfect cleaning company

and QuickCleanerYeovil as the Best Cleaning company in Yeovil.

5 of the best Reasons to get a cleaner

31/10/2018

There are many different reasons why you might consider engaging the services of a professional cleaning company every person is unique and has their own personal reasons but here are some of the top universal truths about cleaning services.
Picture

1 More Time

There is no question if you hire a professional to take care of the cleaning, tidying, washing, laundry and ironing jobs that you normally do then you are effectively buying yourself time. Time to do whatever takes your fancy form getting out and about, spending more time with friends and family, time to work on your profession or perhaps even time to spend on other domestic jobs that might otherwise get over looked. We have one customer who uses the two hours a week she saves on cleaning to cook. She loves cooking but with one thing and the other rarely used to find time. Now she has made time she has got back to preparing healthy delicious meals for her family.

2 More Money

It might sound counter intuitive but for most people hiring a cleaner makes good economic sense. At QuickCleaner most of our cleans cost between £9-10 per hour. If your hourly rate in your job is more than this then it does not make economic sense that you should work at home for less than you do in your profession. Couple this with the fact that our cleaners normally achieve much more in the allotted time than you could because they are not distracted by being in their own home and because their skills and experience allow them to work far more efficiently than the lay person.

3 Better Cleaning

At QuickCleaner we only supply fully vetted, highly skilled professional cleaners. this means that they are usually able to achieve a far higher standard of cleaning than you might be used to. You wouldn't expect to be able to cut your own hair better than a professional and the same goes for cleaning your home

Picture

4 Nicer Home

With your house spotlessly clean you will find it easier to relax and unwind and truly enjoy being in your castle. Most of our clients agree that coming home the day the cleaner has been is the best day of the week!

5 Better Home Management

Having a cleaner can change the way you think about managing your home. The regularity of the cleaners visits and the time you spend planning what you want them to concentrate on can help you to prioritise what is most important to you and your family.  Do you have a set routine for when your bedding gets changed? If not getting a cleaner will force you to create that routine. suddenly you will have a regular weekly or bi-weekly day that you know all bedding is changed without fail. Same with the fridge, you might decide so set a weekly day that all dates on food in the fridge are check and sorted. You also have a professional to consult once you take on a cleaner and they can help you plan and decide what needs doing when.

Of course there are many other good reasons to hire a cleaner but those are some of the big ones. If you want to learn more about how getting a cleaner works and how much it costs please don't hesitate to get in contact and we will be glads to walk you through it.

The News we have all been waiting for...The 'five second rule' is real! Yeah Science!

30/10/2018

We have all done it, dropped something we were really enjoying eating on the floor. You quickly scoop it up and maybe blow some dust off it....then the dilemma. Can you still eat it?
Picture
This is where urban myth comes in - the legendary five second rule. Simply put: If you pick it up off the floor within five seconds it is safe to eat. The germs don't have time to climb on or something.
Picture
You may have this was just an excuse we use because we really want that bit of food until now and a group of scientists have finally started looking at what matters and they have discovered....drum roll......the five second rule is real!

Researchers as Aston University led by Anthony Hilton, Professor of Microbiology, set up a study that measured the transfer of the common bacteria E Coli and Staphylococcus aureus from different types of floor (carpet, laminate and tiled surfaces) onto several different types of food from dry toast to sticky sweets after being dropped for different amounts of time from 3 to 30 seconds.
Picture
The results showed that:

  • Time is the biggest factor in the amount of bacteria transferred
  • Bacteria are least likely to transfer from carpeted surfaces (that one surprised us) and most likely to transfer from hard floors to moist foods making contact for more than 5 seconds.

Professor Hilton said: “Consuming food dropped on the floor still carries an infection risk as it very much depends on which bacteria are present on the floor at the time; however the findings of this study will bring some light relief to those who have been employing the five-second rule for years, despite a general consensus that it is purely a myth.
"We have found evidence that transfer from indoor flooring surfaces is incredibly poor with carpet actually posing the lowest risk of bacterial transfer onto dropped food."

The Aston team also carried out a survey to find out how gross people really are and they found out

  • 87% of people surveyed said they would eat food dropped on the floor, or already have done so
  • 81% of the women who would eat food from the floor would follow the 5 second rule

Professor Hilton added:“Our study showed that a surprisingly large majority of people are happy to consume dropped food, with women the most likely to do so. But they are also more likely to follow the 5 second rule, which our research has shown to be much more than an old wives' tale.”
